Publix Mayhem

I went to Publix one day to return a Rug Doctor with my friend Maria. Bella was with us because we were on our way home for Christmas Break. In order to get the Rug Doctor out of my car we had to open both the front and back door. I remember telling Maria to be extra careful because of how unpredictable Bella is. Some how Bella managed to escape out of the car and she made a run for it. I began to chase her around the Publix parking lot yelling her name, she proceeded to run away from me right in front of a moving car. I screamed at the top of my lungs and thankfully the car stopped just in time. Bella also stopped only to look back at me(because of my scream) and then began to run again. She ran right into the sliding double doors of Publix. Following behind her into Publix I noticed that everyone had stopped what they were doing and were now staring at the hilarious scene my dog had created. Bella still on her Publix adventure runs towards the bakery. She starts to slow down as all the people overwhelm her and I take control of the situation and seize my opportunity. Still running, I slid onto the Publix floor and tackled her to the ground. Bella's adventure was now over and my embarrassment had just begun. The story ends with me carrying Bella by her two front legs and the rest of her body hanging to the floor and everyone either staring or laughing at me and my crazy dog.

Bella's Story

Bella is a female mix of a pit bull and a Curr dog according to her vet though everyone gives me a different opinion on what they think she is. Bella was found by a friend of mine as an abandoned puppy in a neighborhood. She was searching for food in trash cans and was first seen with her nose in a bottle of empty bleach. As my friend went up to her she immediately ran the other way frightened. As my friend was trying to catch her, a woman came out and asked if it was his dog which he then replied "no, is it yours?" The woman said that it was not her and that the dog had been running around the neighborhood for a couple days but nobody could catch it because it was so afraid of people. This led me to believe that this puppy was not treated with the proper care. My friend finally caught the dog after about 15 minutes and brought it home. The whole way home he said the puppy sat in between his back and the seat behind him. When I received a phone call that he had found this puppy, being the dog lover that I am a quickly met him at his house to see it. She was so cute and all I wanted to do was pick her up and hold her and pet her but she still would not come to anyone and would run away if anyone tried. I figured at this point that we were dealing with a dog that had been abused. I finally got her into my arms and decided she definitely needed a bath because she smelled! When I put her in the bath tub I couldn't believe how many fleas she had on her- she was covered! The next week I took her to the vet to get all her shots. At this point in my life, being a freshman in college I was not expecting to have a dog and I knew my parents would kill me if I got one. But there was something about Bella and I became attached. I have had Bella for about two and half years now and she continues to amaze me everyday. I have never encountered a dog like her but I am sure there are more of the sort out there, but to me she is one of a kind!
